2027: Obi, Kwankwaso have finalised move to work together — OK Movement
The OK Movement has announced that former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi and former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso have agreed to work together ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The group’s National Publicity Secretary, Justin Ijeh, disclosed this during an appearance on Arise TV’s Prime Time on Thursday, describing the arrangement as both a political strategy and a reform-oriented coalition within the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
According to him, the movement is a fusion of the “Obedient” support base and the Kwankwasiyya political structure, designed to strengthen grassroots mobilisation across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
He said discussions are ongoing regarding the structure of the proposed joint ticket, noting that the key agreement so far is cooperation between both political figures.
“What is central is that both principals have agreed to work together. The specifics of who leads or deputises will be communicated by them at the appropriate time,” Ijeh said.
He added that the movement is not aimed at excluding other aspirants within the ADC, but rather at promoting what it considers a stronger opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 polls.
The development comes amid growing political realignments within the ADC, where other figures including Atiku Abubakar, Rotimi Amaechi, and Aminu Waziri Tambuwal are also reportedly positioning for the party’s presidential ticket.
Ijeh expressed optimism that the party would manage internal competition constructively, stressing that the coalition is rooted in consensus-building.
“The expectation is that whoever emerges will enjoy the support of others. That is the spirit of coalition,” he said.
