2027: ‘Tinubu can be defeated, APC will finish last’ – SDP candidate Adebayo

The presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Adewole Adebayo, has said President Bola Tinubu can be defeated in the 2027 presidential election, predicting that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) will finish last in the race.

Adebayo made the statement on Tuesday during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, while discussing his chances against Tinubu and whether the President’s re-election bid would be difficult to challenge.

The SDP candidate said those who believe Tinubu and the APC are unbeatable are underestimating the power of Nigerian voters.

According to him, the outcome of the 2027 election will ultimately be decided by the electorate through the votes they cast.

“Those people are insulting Nigerians. You cannot be in government if Nigerians vote against you. My job is to talk to Nigerian people. We say enough is enough to poverty and insecurity. We believe in it, we vote for it. APC will come last because we will have to count how many thumbprints you get,” Adebayo said.

According to him, the electorate would reject inducements if they remained focused on the need to address poverty and insecurity.

“If people are not collecting rice and money from them, if you focus on what you need to save this generation from perpetual poverty and insecurity, realising that we cannot afford four more years of this same thing because our generation has been stressed to the eyeballs, we will win by God’s grace,” he said.

On his policy agenda, Adebayo said Nigeria had sufficient agricultural potential to become a major food supplier across the continent, arguing that the sector had not received adequate investment.

“We are a nation that has the capacity to feed the whole of Africa within a period of three years. There is no investment in agriculture,” he said.

He also challenged conventional understanding of fuel subsidy, saying: “Subsidy is an account in government. Subsidy is not petrol. Subsidy will fail anytime you have no control over the supply.”

Adebayo’s comments add to his recent criticism of the Tinubu administration as the 2027 presidential contest gathers momentum. He has previously argued that Nigerians should not regard the President as unbeatable, maintaining that the election would ultimately be decided by voters.
