Nafiu Gombe rejects expulsion, describes ADC convention as entertainment gathering
Reacting to his reported expulsion from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Nafiu Gombe has dismissed the decision, insisting that the convention that produced it was illegal and holds no legal or institutional weight.
Gombe argued that the outcome of the convention cannot be binding, alleging that those who presided over the process are not recognised members of the party.
“How can somebody outside the party – I did not see David Mark, Aregbesola or anyone of them as ADC members.
“I hope you are aware that those people took me to the Court of Appeal up to the Supreme Court, even at the Supreme Court today (Tuesday), the application by David Mark was dismissed. These are people that are behaving like they are above the law.
“As we can see, INEC did not appear before their convention, yet they went ahead with it, that is an illegal convention because they are not our party members, so I won’t even comment against that exercise because it’s just an entertainment,” he said.
His remarks come amid escalating leadership tensions within the ADC following the party’s national convention, where some members were expelled over alleged anti-party activities.
Meanwhile, efforts to reach Kennedy Odion, Secretary of the Interim Caretaker Committee of the party’s NEC constituted by state chairmen and some members of the party’s NEC, were unsuccessful as his phone line was unreachable at the time of filing this report.
