Breaking: Abducted JAMB candidates, 13 other Benue bus passengers regain freedom
All 13 remaining passengers, including candidates sitting for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board examination, abducted from an 18-seater Benue Links bus along the Makurdi-Otukpo road in Benue State, have regained their freedom.
Sources said about eight of the released victims were candidates travelling to Otukpo to sit for their examinations when armed men attacked the vehicle last Wednesday and whisked passengers away.
Although authorities are yet to disclose details surrounding the operation, the victims were reportedly freed in the early hours of Sunday after spending about three days in captivity.
Security operatives were said to have intensified search and rescue efforts in the area in the days leading to their release.
Following their freedom, the victims were immediately evacuated for urgent medical attention and are currently receiving treatment at the Federal University of Health Sciences Teaching Hospital.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Ifeanyi Emenari, confirmed the development and said the command would brief the media on further details.
