Former Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, has expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the opportunity to serve in multiple roles since the inception of the current administration in May 2023.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Edun described his time in office as an honour, noting that he contributed to the implementation of key economic policies during what he called a critical phase in Nigeria’s development.

“I wish to thank His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR for the opportunity to serve our country from the outset of his administration in May 2023; first as head of the Presidential Transition Committee, then in my role as Special Adviser on Monetary Policy, before my appointment as Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy,” he said.

Reflecting on his tenure, Edun stated that the administration inherited significant economic challenges but pursued reforms aimed at stabilising the macroeconomic environment and improving fiscal sustainability.

According to him, these efforts yielded measurable outcomes, including an increase in economic growth from about 2 percent to over 4 percent, alongside a reduction in inflation from 35 percent to 15 percent.

He attributed the progress to coordinated policy implementation, improved investor confidence, and efforts to rebuild public trust in government institutions.

“I am proud of what we achieved alongside colleagues in the Federal Executive Council, state governors, and partners in both the public and private sectors,” he added.

Despite acknowledging that challenges remain, Edun maintained that the administration has laid a solid foundation for long-term economic growth and development.

He also extended appreciation to domestic and international stakeholders for their support throughout his time in office, expressing confidence in Nigeria’s economic trajectory.

Edun wished his successor well and reaffirmed his commitment to supporting ongoing reforms aimed at improving the living standards of Nigerians.

His statement comes shortly after President Tinubu approved a cabinet reshuffle, which saw his replacement by Taiwo Oyedele.
