BREAKING: Cross River govt identifies 10 Nigerians with Covid-19 symptoms after contacts with infected Chinese national
The Cross River State Government has identified and isolated 10 individuals who had contact with a Chinese national linked to a fresh case of COVID-19 in the state, as authorities intensify efforts to prevent further spread.
The state epidemiologist, Dr. Inyang Ekpenyong, disclosed that the contacts were traced during a surveillance operation conducted at the patient’s workplace in Akamkpa Local Government Area.
According to her, the affected individuals have been placed under movement restrictions and are being monitored closely to curb possible transmission.
She added that the index patient is currently receiving treatment at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital and is responding positively.
Ekpenyong reassured residents that the situation remains under control but stressed the need for continued vigilance, noting that the virus has not been completely eradicated globally.
She urged the public to maintain preventive measures, including regular hand hygiene, use of face masks, and adherence to public health guidelines.
Earlier, the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Henry Ayuk, confirmed the resurgence of the virus and said the government had activated all necessary public health protocols to contain any potential outbreak.
He emphasised that while the case is not unique to Nigeria, given global mobility, there is no cause for panic as the state remains prepared to manage the situation effectively.
