The Bayelsa State chapter of the Labour Party (LP) has informed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that it has postponed its State and National Assembly primaries to May 30, 2026.

The party explained that the rescheduled primaries will be held through a consensus arrangement across all constituencies and senatorial districts in the state.

In a letter dated May 21, 2026, and signed by the State Chairman, Eneyi Zidoughan, and State Secretary, Talbot Jonnie, the party explained that the earlier dates of May 27 to 29, 2026, were affected by the review of the electoral timetable and the Eid-el-Kabir (Salah) public holiday.

The letter conveying the decision was addressed to the State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC).
