President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of renowned chartered accountant and financial management expert, Kunle Elebute, as Chairman of the Governing Board of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRCN).

According to a statement from the Presidency’s X handle on Thursday, the appointment is aimed at strengthening corporate governance, improving transparency, and boosting investor confidence in Nigeria’s financial system.

Elebute, a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), brings over four decades of professional experience spanning Nigeria, West Africa and global markets.

He previously served as Senior Partner and CEO of KPMG Nigeria, Chairman of KPMG West Africa, and Chairman of KPMG Africa, as well as holding roles on global governance and audit committees within the firm.

The Presidency described the Financial Reporting Council as a critical institution for setting and enforcing standards in auditing, actuarial work, valuation and corporate governance, noting that its role is central to economic stability and investor protection.

The appointment comes at a time the Federal Government says it is pushing reforms aimed at aligning Nigeria’s financial reporting framework with international best practices and strengthening confidence in the economy.

Officials expressed optimism that Elebute’s experience will support ongoing reforms under the administration’s economic agenda and enhance institutional credibility.
