Former Bauchi Deputy Governor Audu Sule Katagum is dead
Arch. Audu Sule Katagum, former Deputy Governor of Bauchi State and Wazirin Katagum, has died at the age of 69.
He passed away in the early hours of Saturday, with his death prompting widespread condolences from political leaders and traditional institutions across Bauchi State.
Katagum served as Deputy Governor between 2018 and 2019 under former Governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar. Prior to that, he held the position of Chief of Staff at the Bauchi State Government House, where he played a key role in the administration’s coordination and governance structure.
His death was confirmed by Shamsuddeen Lukman Abubakar, a digital and creative media aide to the former governor, who described the late politician as a dedicated public servant.
“Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Ilaihi Raji’un. It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Arch. Audu Sule Katagum, Wazirin Katagum and former Deputy Governor of Bauchi State,” he said.
According to him, the deceased “passed away in the early hours of today after a life of dedicated service to his community, Bauchi State and the nation,” adding that funeral arrangements would be announced by the family.
Katagum also held the traditional title of Wazirin Katagum, a prominent position within the Katagum Emirate that accorded him significant influence in traditional leadership affairs.
He was the son of the late Alhaji Sule Katagum, Nigeria’s first Chairman of the Federal Public Service Commission, who also once held the Waziri title in the emirate.
