Popular political musician, Dauda Kahutu, widely known as Rarara, has accused former Kano State Governor and Kwankwasiyya Movement leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, of playing a role in policies that contributed to some of Nigeria’s current economic and governance challenges.

Rarara made the allegation during an interview with an online platform, SL Update, where he argued that several of the difficulties facing the country today can be traced to decisions taken by past political leaders.

According to him, one of the major issues affecting governance in Nigeria is the practice of withholding local government funds instead of allowing councils direct access to their allocations for grassroots development.

He maintained that local governments remain the closest tier of government to the people and should have full control over their finances to effectively deliver essential services.

“Local government funds are the lifeline of the people. They are what bring government services closer to ordinary citizens at the grassroots level. When those funds are withheld or controlled elsewhere, essential services meant for the people are affected,” he said.

The musician argued that the country’s development challenges worsened after the introduction of policies that limited the financial independence of local councils, adding that the consequences are still evident across different sectors of the economy.

Rarara further noted that inadequate funding at the local government level has negatively impacted critical areas such as education, healthcare, water supply, and rural infrastructure development.

He stressed that granting local governments full financial and administrative autonomy remains essential to achieving sustainable development and improving the welfare of citizens.

According to him, meaningful economic growth can only be achieved when local councils are empowered to manage their resources independently and address the needs of their communities without external interference.

His comments come amid ongoing national discussions on local government autonomy and growing calls for reforms that would ensure direct access to allocations and greater independence for local councils.

As of the time of filing this report, Kwankwaso and his representatives had not publicly responded to the allegations.
