Bandits have attacked the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Oke Isegun, in Eruku, Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, killing the pastor and abducting several worshippers.

The attack, which occurred on Tuesday evening, threw the border community, located close to Kogi State, into fear and confusion.

A video seen by our reporter shows worshippers gathered for a church programme when sudden gunshots rang out.

Some members rushed to take cover behind chairs as the attackers fired repeatedly from outside before eventually forcing their way into the church.

One of the gunmen was seen carrying bags abandoned by fleeing worshippers, while others gained access through the church’s main gate.

At least two of the attackers wore masks, and another was captured on video using a flashlight.

The incident reportedly happened during a programme ahead of the church’s night vigil.

A resident identified as Mr. Ayo told Daily Trust that the bandits stormed the church and opened fire on the congregation. According to him, the pastor and another worshipper were killed, while several people were abducted.

Another resident, who declined to be named, said the attack happened shortly after 6 p.m., throwing the community into panic.

He added that local vigilantes confronted the attackers to prevent further casualties.

The community, residents said, has suffered repeated attacks in recent times.

Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, confirmed the incident in a telephone conversation with Newsmen.

“Yes, the community is under attack. I am presently in touch with my DPO and we learnt it was repelled immediately but one person was killed. That’s all I can say for now,” he said.
