2027: Goodluck Jonathan meets Tinubu in private meeting at Aso Rock
Former President Goodluck Jonathan on Sunday held a private meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
According to The Nation, the meeting took place behind closed doors, with neither the Presidency nor Jonathan issuing an official statement on the discussions.
The meeting comes amid continued speculation over Jonathan’s possible return to active politics ahead of the 2027 general election.
The former president has remained silent on reports linking him to the presidential race.
The development follows claims by the Kabiru Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which had announced on May 30 that it submitted Jonathan’s name and credentials to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as its presidential candidate.
However, Jonathan’s name was absent from the list of 19 presidential candidates published by INEC on Saturday, effectively ruling him out of the officially recognised candidates for the 2027 presidential election.
Although the purpose of Sunday’s meeting was not disclosed, political observers have speculated that it could be related to ongoing political developments ahead of the 2027 polls. Neither President Tinubu nor former President Jonathan has commented publicly on the meeting.
