2027: Why I won’t travel around with Peter Obi like I did in 2023 — Aisha Yesufu

Social activist Aisha Yesufu has explained why she will not travel extensively with Peter Obi as she did during the 2023 presidential campaign ahead of the 2027 election.

Yesufu, in a video clip obtained by VERY NIGERIAN on Monday, said her role in the 2027 election would be different, with greater emphasis on voter mobilisation, election monitoring and protecting votes at polling units.

She explained that her involvement in Obi’s 2023 campaign was largely aimed at helping Nigerians understand that the former Anambra State governor was not a candidate for any particular ethnic or religious group but a candidate for all Nigerians.

According to her, the campaign helped expand Obi’s support base, with many Nigerians who initially doubted his chances eventually becoming convinced of his capacity to win the election.

Why Yesufu Is Changing Her Strategy

Yesufu said her priority ahead of the 2027 election would be to ensure that Nigerians who intend to vote for Obi are properly mobilised and that their votes are protected.

She urged supporters to establish networks at polling units before election day to coordinate voting and monitor the collation of results.

The activist also called on voters to understand how results are recorded and remain vigilant against errors or alleged manipulation during the process.

“Your vote that you voted, it must be entered. You must see it manually entered. Follow it. Escort your vote from your polling unit to the ward collation centre,” she said.

Yesufu stressed that protecting votes would be just as important as campaigning for candidates.

She said she would still campaign alongside Obi when necessary but would concentrate more on organisational activities instead of travelling with him to every state.

“There are so many other things that I am doing. I am going to be doing so you might not get out as much as possible to ensure that I’m doing this,” she said.

She added that other young Nigerians were already contributing to the campaign through voter mobilisation, photography, content creation and other activities.
