At least 15 people have been killed following a fierce gun battle between bandits and operatives of the Community Watch Corps (CWC) in Katsina State.

The clash occurred late Monday night in Falale community, Jibia Local Government Area, after bandits reportedly attempted to invade the area. Members of the CWC, a state-backed vigilante group, were said to have mobilised swiftly upon receiving intelligence, leading to a violent confrontation.

Casualties were recorded on both sides, with several others sustaining injuries and currently receiving treatment in hospitals. The deceased have since been buried in accordance with Islamic rites.

Katsina State has continued to grapple with persistent security challenges linked to banditry and armed attacks. In recent weeks, multiple communities have come under assault, including incidents in Musawa and Dandume local government areas where 14 people were killed, as well as an earlier attack in Faskari that claimed over 20 lives.

However, security forces have also recorded successes, including a recent operation in Danmusa Local Government Area that led to the killing of dozens of suspected bandits.

Confirming the latest incident, the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr Nasir Mu’azu, said the violence occurred in Falale and nearby Kadobe villages on March 17.

He added that normalcy has been restored and urged residents to remain calm, assuring them of the government’s continued efforts to maintain peace and security across the state.
