American rapper Nicki Minaj has sparked reactions online after reposting a message by Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, on the worsening security situation in Niger State.

Obi, in a post on Wednesday, condemned the reported killings, kidnappings and ransom demands in Borgu, Niger State, and called on the Federal Government to take stronger measures to protect Nigerians.

Minaj reposted Obi’s message on Thursday, drawing a wave of reactions from Nigerians and other social media users.

While some users welcomed the development, describing it as an indication that Nigeria’s security challenges were attracting international attention, others criticised the rapper for amplifying Obi’s message.

Some of those who supported the repost praised Minaj for using her platform to draw attention to insecurity in Nigeria.

“I confirmed on her page. She did. Interesting times ahead,” a user identified as @son_of_jerry wrote.

Another user, @justme2005, said Minaj had previously spoken about the security situation in Nigeria, writing: “She’s been speaking out about the genocide in Nigeria.”

However, some reactions were politically charged, with users linking the development to the 2027 elections and expressing support for Obi.

@Supo196 wrote: “She should help us to talk to President Trump directly to help Nigeria in removing this APC, with this our problems is half solved.”

Another user, @RamatVictory, said: “They can never make me hate her. She defends Nigerians more than our so called President.”

@Bossvick36 also urged Nigerians to support Obi, saying the repost showed that issues raised on social media could receive international attention.

“The fact she uses her voice to speak for Nigerians is thoughtful,” @Theifeanyiii wrote.

Similarly, @Futureking624 reacted in pidgin, saying: “That means American eyes dey Nigeria since.”

Another user, @The Queen Of Possibilities, thanked Minaj and former United States President Donald Trump for drawing attention to the situation, while praying for the safety of Nigerians affected by insecurity.

The reactions come amid continuing concerns over killings, kidnappings and ransom demands in parts of Nigeria, with Obi urging the Federal Government to intensify efforts to protect citizens and address the security challenges.
