Atiku, Ihedioha are ‘moles’ planted by Tinubu to sabotage 2027 opposition — Ohanaeze Youth Council claims
The Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC) has stirred fresh political controversy after accusing former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Imo State Governor Emeka Ihedioha of allegedly working in favour of President Bola Tinubu and plotting to destabilise opposition efforts ahead of the 2027 general elections.
At a press briefing in Abuja on Friday, the group described the duo as “moles” within the opposition ranks, warning that their alleged activities could weaken the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and derail its chances in the next presidential race.
OYC National President, Igboayaka O. Igboayaka, alleged that the opposition crisis that plagued the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2023 could be repeated in the ADC due to what he called “internal sabotage and selfish political interests.”
He accused Atiku of ignoring Nigeria’s informal power rotation principle, insisting that the alleged refusal to allow southern Nigeria produce the 2023 PDP presidential candidate contributed to the party’s electoral setback.
The group also raised concerns about what it described as a possible repeat of leadership imbalance within the ADC, pointing out that both the party’s national chairman, David Mark, and Atiku are from northern Nigeria.
OYC further alleged that there is a coordinated effort within the ADC to undermine the presidential ambition of Labour Party’s 2023 candidate, Peter Obi, claiming that certain political actors, including Kenneth Okonkwo and Emeka Ihedioha, are working behind the scenes to favour Atiku’s emergence.
The group warned that such arrangements could fracture the opposition and inadvertently strengthen President Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
In a further escalation, the youth group issued a 72-hour ultimatum to Obi, urging him to exit the ADC and reposition himself in another political platform if he intends to contest the presidency.
Meanwhile, the group also defended former Rivers State Governor and FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, insisting that his actions during the PDP crisis were misunderstood and not aimed at destroying the party.
The statement has further deepened tensions within opposition circles as political realignments continue ahead of the 2027 general elections.
