Benue, A’Ibom, Rivers lead as over 1.7 million Nigerians receive HIV treatment — National Data Repository
More than 1.7 million Nigerians are currently receiving treatment for Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) across the country, according to the latest figures released by the National Data Repository.
The data, published on May 13, 2026, showed that Benue State recorded the highest number of patients on treatment with 195,305 cases, followed by Akwa Ibom with 158,201 and Lagos State with 135,918.
Rivers State recorded 90,055 patients receiving treatment, while Nasarawa had 65,996 and the Federal Capital Territory recorded 62,627 patients.
According to the report, Kaduna State has 58,576 patients on treatment, Cross River recorded 57,765, Enugu had 55,478, while Delta State accounted for 52,475 patients.
Other states with high treatment figures include Taraba with 51,840, Abia with 50,038, Imo with 47,863, Plateau with 46,618 and Anambra with 46,602 patients.
Adamawa recorded 42,074 patients, Kano had 41,093, Kogi recorded 37,301, Oyo had 33,133, while Niger State recorded 33,057 patients currently on treatment.
The report further showed that Ogun State has 31,822 patients, Bauchi 29,745, Edo 29,256, Gombe 28,037 and Osun 25,018.
Borno recorded 24,527 patients, Ondo 22,455, Kebbi 20,803, Bayelsa 19,549 and Katsina 18,682.
Other states include Ebonyi with 15,474 patients, Kwara with 14,997, Jigawa with 14,302, Zamfara with 13,813, Ekiti with 12,356, Yobe with 10,716 and Sokoto with 10,511 patients.
Overall, the National Data Repository stated that a total of 1.70 million Nigerians are currently receiving HIV treatment as of May 13, 2026, reflecting the scale of ongoing HIV treatment coverage and intervention efforts nationwide.
