Curacao becomes smallest nation to qualify for W’Cup
Curacao has etched its name into football history after becoming the smallest country ever to qualify for the FIFA World Cup.
The tiny Caribbean nation, with a population of just 156,000, secured its spot on Tuesday following a hard-fought 0–0 draw against Jamaica in Kingston.
Needing only a point to advance, the Blue Wave survived relentless second-half pressure from the Reggae Boyz to clinch the vital result.
The draw sealed a remarkable qualification journey, with Curacao finishing top of Group B on 12 points from six matches, one point ahead of Jamaica.
Their achievement comes ahead of the first 48-team World Cup, set to take place across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Curacao now stands as the smallest nation ever to reach football’s biggest stage, completing a true fairytale run.
The previous smallest country to qualify for the tournament were Iceland in 2018, with a population of around 350,000.
