European Bank President Christine Lagarde set to resign February 2027
European Central Bank (ECB) President Christine Lagarde will step down from her position on February 7, 2027, several months before the end of her tenure in October 2027.
The Frankfurt-based institution announced her decision in a statement on Thursday, confirming that Lagarde had informed the ECB’s Governing Council and European Council President Antonio Costa of her plan to leave office.
“European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde today informed the Governing Council and the president of the European Council Antonio Costa that she will step down from her position on 7 February 2027,” the ECB said.
Her planned departure will come about eight months before her current term is due to expire in October 2027.
