Grammys controversy as Trump reacts to Epstein joke by Trevor Noah
Donald Trump has threatened legal action against Grammy Awards host Trevor Noah.
Former United States President Donald Trump has threatened legal action against the organisers of the 68th Grammy Awards following a joke made by the event’s host, Trevor Noah, linking him to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
The threat followed comments Noah made on stage during the award ceremony on Monday night.
After congratulating Billie Eilish for winning the Song of the Year award for her track Wildflower, Noah made a quip referencing Trump’s controversial remarks about acquiring Greenland.
“That’s a Grammy every artist wants — almost as much as Trump wants Greenland,” Noah said.
He then added: “Which makes sense because, since Epstein’s gone, he needs a new island to hang out with Bill Clinton.”
The remark sparked an immediate backlash from Trump, who took to his Truth Social platform to condemn both the awards ceremony and its host.
“The Grammy Awards are the worst and virtually unwatchable,” Trump wrote, before accusing Noah of making a “false and defamatory” statement.
“I can’t speak for Bill, but I have never been to Epstein Island, nor anywhere close, and until tonight have never been accused of being there, not even by the fake news media,” Trump said.
The former president further described the South African-born comedian as a “total loser” who needs to “get his facts straight,” threatening to deploy his lawyers against him.
“I’ll be sending my lawyers to sue this poor, pathetic, talentless dope of an MC,” Trump added.
Trevor Noah, who has hosted the Grammys six times, had earlier announced that 2026 would be his final year as the ceremony’s emcee. His hosting in previous editions was largely devoid of overt political commentary.
Trump has previously acknowledged social interactions with Epstein in Florida and New York but has denied visiting the financier’s private island. He has also opposed the release of documents related to Epstein’s activities.
On Friday, more than three million documents were unsealed, containing references to several high-profile figures, including Trump, Elon Musk, Bill Gates, Bill Clinton, and Prince Andrew.
