If you continue to deny the debt burden, we’ll release more evidence to the public — Anambra Govt warns Obi

Anambra State Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor, has warned former Governor Peter Obi that the state government may release additional financial records if he continues to deny the debt burden attributed to his administration.

Mefor said the government was not politically witch-hunting Obi, insisting that its position was based on records and documents concerning the state’s finances.

“If you continue to deny the debt burden, we will release more to the public, and we are not witch-hunting you politically,” Mefor said.

The commissioner’s statement comes amid the ongoing controversy between the Anambra State Government and Obi over the financial obligations inherited from his administration.

The Soludo administration has released details of outstanding external loans and other liabilities it says are connected to previous administrations, while Obi has disputed the claims and presented documents relating to the financial position of the state when he left office.

The dispute has continued to generate reactions from political figures and supporters of both sides, with calls for the relevant financial records to be made available for public scrutiny.
