‘It is unrealistic to expect Adeboye to lead protest’ – Bamiloye slams critics
Evangelist Mike Bamiloye has come to the defence of Pastor Enoch Adeboye following calls by some Nigerians urging the leader of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) to spearhead protests against insecurity in the country.
Reacting to the criticism in an Instagram post, Bamiloye argued that it is unreasonable to expect an 84-year-old cleric to lead street protests against the government, considering both his age and the nature of his spiritual calling.
According to Bamiloye, Adeboye only participated in a protest on February 2, 2020, because the Christian Association of Nigeria and the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria directed churches nationwide to demonstrate against worsening insecurity at the time.
He maintained that while citizens have the right to demand action from leaders, expecting the veteran pastor to personally lead protests does not align with his current role and responsibilities.
Bamiloye stressed that the church’s major responsibility is to pray continually for the peace of the nation and for God’s intervention in government, citing 1 Timothy 2:1-3.
“This is what he said. Many bloggers saw this, but they would project it onto others.
“But he spoke against the Evils. And for all those who are expecting an 84-year-old man, Servant of God, to lead a Protest against a Government, this does not make sense by virtue of his age and by the Mandate of His Calling.
“And for all those who said he led a Protest against Jonathan on February 2nd 2010, it was the instruction of the CAN and PFN for every church to stage a protest against INSECURITY in the nation, and he complied and led his denomination too, just as some other churches did.
“Our major responsibility as the Church of God is to continually pray for the peace of our Nation and the intervention of God in the Government. I TIMOTHY 2:1-3”, he wrote.
