Kwankwaso to drag Primate Ayodele to court over Obi betrayal prophecy
Former Kano State Governor and Vice-Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has threatened to commence legal action against Elijah Ayodele over alleged defamatory comments.
In a demand letter dated June 11, 2026, issued by his lawyers, Magaji Mato Ibrahim, SAN & Co., Kwankwaso demanded an immediate retraction and apology from the cleric over statements allegedly made during a live-streamed church service.
According to the legal team, Primate Ayodele, founder of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, made comments questioning Kwankwaso’s loyalty as the running mate to Peter Obi under the NDC platform.
The letter quoted the cleric as saying:
“Kwankwaso is a fake to Obi, Kwankwaso will betray you. Kwankwaso has been paid to be Vice President to Obi,” among other remarks.
Kwankwaso’s lawyers described the statements as false, malicious and defamatory, arguing that they were intended to damage his reputation and create division within the party and among its supporters.
The legal team demanded that the cleric:
Publish a full and unequivocal retraction of the statements;
Issue a public apology across all social media platforms and news outlets where the comments were circulated;
Provide a written undertaking that he would refrain from making further defamatory remarks against their client.
The lawyers gave Primate Ayodele a 24-hour ultimatum to comply with the demands.
They warned that failure to do so would result in legal proceedings seeking damages of N10 billion, alongside other reliefs and legal costs.
The development adds a legal dimension to the growing political tensions ahead of the 2027 general elections, with both Kwankwaso and Obi remaining prominent figures in opposition politics.
