NDC disowns OK Movement campaign council, refers John Ugulu for discipline
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has dissociated itself from a Presidential Campaign Council announced by the OK Movement and referred the movement’s leader, John Ugulu, to the party’s disciplinary organ.
The party, in a statement dated September 19, 2026, and signed by its National Chairman, Senator Cleopas Moses, said it had noted with concern a publication credited to Ugulu announcing the campaign council under the name of the OK Movement.
The NDC clarified that the announcement was not issued or authorised by the party and urged the public and media organisations to disregard it.
It stressed that its candidates were not independent candidates and remained subject to the authority and regulations of the party.
According to the statement, only the party leadership has the authority to constitute and announce a Presidential Campaign Council.
The NDC warned that no member, candidate or support group should engage in activities capable of undermining or damaging the party’s image.
It further stated that, henceforth, no individual or group would be permitted to announce, constitute or publish any campaign council, structure or organ in the party’s name without prior approval from the National Working Committee.
While acknowledging the role of support groups in political mobilisation, the party said such groups must not present themselves as alternative party structures or parallel organs.
The statement added that grievances and disagreements should be addressed through the party’s internal mechanisms rather than public attacks or unauthorised announcements.
The NDC said its decision to refer Ugulu for disciplinary action followed what it described as an affront to the party’s authority, alleged excesses during the Lagos State primary and repeated disregard for party directives.
It said Ugulu had consequently been referred to the appropriate disciplinary organ in accordance with the party’s constitution.
The party reaffirmed its commitment to an issue-based campaign, saying it remained focused on its political agenda and its commitment to delivering what it described as a “New Nigeria that is Possible.”
