NUJ FCT Chairman Grace Ike inducted into NIPR
The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Federal Capital Territory Council, Grace Ike, has been inducted into the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), marking a significant step in her career in media and strategic communication.
Speaking at the ceremony in Abuja, Ike described her induction as both a personal milestone and a professional evolution, bridging her longstanding journalism career with the expanding field of public relations.
She noted that her over two decades of experience in journalism and media advocacy have shaped her understanding of communication as a critical tool for nation-building.
According to her, communication plays a central role in fostering trust, shaping public narratives, and driving meaningful societal change.
As NUJ FCT Chairman, Ike has been actively involved in promoting press freedom, strengthening ethical standards, and advocating for the welfare of journalists.
She said her entry into the NIPR would further reinforce her commitment to ethical communication, especially at a time when misinformation and digital disruption continue to challenge the media landscape.
Ike pledged to bring the discipline and integrity of journalism into public relations practice, emphasising the need for responsible storytelling and strategic engagement.
She also stressed that modern public relations goes beyond image management to include reputation building, crisis communication, and relationship management.
“In an era of misinformation, communication professionals must prioritise integrity and foster dialogue that promotes unity,” she said.
Reaffirming her dedication to excellence, Ike promised to uphold the standards of the institute, mentor emerging professionals, and contribute to strengthening Nigeria’s communication ecosystem.
She further highlighted the role of communication practitioners in safeguarding the country’s image and projecting a positive national identity.
Other notable inductees at the ceremony included former President of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Evelyn Onyilo; Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Leke Bayewu; and Ikenna Egwuatu, among others.
The event attracted media stakeholders, public relations experts, and industry leaders, underscoring the growing collaboration between journalism and public relations in advancing national development.
