Obi unveils 2027 agenda, targets education, healthcare and employment
The 2027 presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has unveiled his vision for Nigeria, outlining a comprehensive roadmap centred on education, healthcare, industrialisation, job creation and national unity.
Obi made the disclosure in a statement released on Wednesday through his official X account, describing it as his vision for building a productive and prosperous Nigeria.
According to the former Anambra State governor, his administration would prioritise unity, inclusion, social justice, equity and the freedom of every Nigerian to pursue legitimate aspirations.
“Today, being the 1st of July, 2026, I wish to humbly recall that when I decided to contest for the office of President of Nigeria, I pledged to place Nigeria on the path of unity and national transformation,” Obi said.
He explained that, over the coming weeks and months, he would continue to present details of his proposed roadmap aimed at tackling poor governance, improving the quality of life and restoring national progress.
“This vision is anchored on a commitment to unity, inclusion, social justice, equity, and the freedom of every citizen to pursue lawful dreams,” he added.
Obi identified education and healthcare as the foundation of his development agenda, describing human capital development as the most important investment any nation can make.
According to him, his administration would establish a special task force immediately after inauguration to drastically reduce the number of out-of-school children across the country.
He also pledged to strengthen Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) as a key strategy for industrialisation and economic growth.
Obi said his government would invest in vocational institutions through partnerships involving government, the private sector and faith-based organisations, while promoting apprenticeship programmes modelled after Germany’s dual education system.
He added that industrial parks would be established across the country’s geopolitical zones to support value addition, manufacturing and agricultural processing.
“Our drive for massive industrialisation will be anchored on our agricultural endowments and value addition across value chains organised around industrial parks located in development zones across the geopolitical regions of the country,” he said.
The former governor also promised to tackle unemployment by producing a skilled workforce capable of meeting the needs of Nigerian industries.
He lamented the paradox of rising unemployment despite Nigerian businesses relocating abroad because of the shortage of skilled labour.
“The situation in which unemployment remains high while Nigerian entrepreneurs establish businesses elsewhere because skilled labour is scarce must be confronted decisively,” he stated.
Obi further pledged to strengthen character and civic education to promote integrity, trust, responsible leadership and shared national values.
According to him, these reforms are essential to transforming Nigeria from a consumption-driven economy into a production-driven economy capable of creating sustainable jobs and improving living standards.
He concluded the statement with his familiar campaign slogan: “A New Nigeria is POssible.”
