Osun Account Freeze: Gov Adeleke drags EFCC to court
Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has directed the state’s Attorney-General to institute legal proceedings against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over the freezing of a government bank account.
The directive follows the anti-graft agency’s decision to place a restriction on an Osun State Government account domiciled with First Bank.
Speaking with journalists at the Government House in Osogbo, Governor Adeleke condemned the action, describing it as a violation of the rule of law. He insisted that the EFCC’s decision was unacceptable and called on the commission’s Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, to explain the reason behind the restriction placed on the state’s account.
He called on Nigerians and residents of Osun State to pay attention to the development, describing it as a matter of public concern.
“All I ask is for the EFCC chairman to explain to the good people of Osun State and Nigerians in general why he froze the Osun State Government account and provide evidence to support whatever reason he presents.
