PDP has no faction, we will occupy National Secretariat Monday — Anyanwu
Anyanwu spoke after a meeting of political party leaders with INEC on Thursday, where he expressed confidence in the PDP’s recovery.
The factional National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Samuel Anyanwu, has insisted that there are no factions within the opposition party, declaring that its internal crisis has been resolved.
Anyanwu spoke to journalists on Thursday after a meeting of political party leaders with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
According to him, a recent judgment delivered by the Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan, Oyo State, has paved the way for what he described as the party’s rapid recovery and return to stability.
He said the PDP already has its candidates ready for the forthcoming Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections, adding that the party is well-positioned to win.
“It’s a matter of fact. With our party, we have no problem. We have no faction. We have just one PDP in Nigeria under the leadership of our chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed,” Anyanwu said.
He acknowledged that the party had experienced serious internal disputes but said the court judgment had effectively put an end to them.
“Nigerians are aware that we had issues, hardcore issues. But last week, the Federal High Court in Ibadan made it very clear that the problem of PDP is over because the so-called convention of November 15–16, 2025, is a nullity, and that no other person should parade himself or herself as PDP chairman,” he stated.
Anyanwu added that the judgment affirmed the authority of the National Working Committee (NWC) led by Abdulrahman Mohammed as the only recognised leadership of the party.
“No other person has the full powers to speak for the party, to work for the party or to administer it, except the National Working Committee led by Abdulrahman Mohammed,” he said.
Responding to questions on why his group has yet to assume control of the party’s national secretariat, Anyanwu said the premises had been sealed by the police following the leadership dispute.
“You know the police sealed the place, and the other group went to court to ask the police to open it. The matter was dismissed because they have no locus,” he explained.
He disclosed that arrangements were underway to reclaim the secretariat.
“By Monday, we’re taking over the office. Party members are already happy because those who were afraid they wouldn’t be able to contest the next election now have nothing to worry about. The matter is settled,” Anyanwu said.
