A former Chairman of Yala Local Government Area in Cross River State, Hon. Chief Gabe Ugor (Gabriel Idagu Ugor), has died at the age of 59.

Hon. Gabriel Bravo Oluohu confirmed the development to Journalists, stating that Ugor passed away in the early hours of Sunday, November 23, 2025, in Abuja after a brief illness.

His remains have been deposited in a medical facility in the Federal Capital Territory.

Hon. Ugor served as Chairman of Yala LGA from December 2010 to December 2013, a period many residents still remember as one of the most impactful in the council’s recent history, despite the controversies that followed after his exit from office.

He later became Special Adviser to former Governor Liyel Imoke on Revenue Service between 2014 and 2015.

Under former Governor Ben Ayade, he was appointed Special Adviser on Finance and Tourism in 2016, strengthening his influence in state governance.

A graduate of the University of Calabar, Hon. Ugor was a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) and the Institute of Certified Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN).

His strong background in accounting and taxation shaped much of his approach to public service.

Beyond government appointments, he maintained an active voice in community and political affairs.

In 2018, he called for long-term solutions to boundary disputes in Cross River, advocating for permanent peace committees and insisting that protecting lives should be prioritised over infrastructure projects.

During his time as chairman, he also intervened in crisis situations. In 2012, he appealed for assistance after a rainstorm devastated communities in Yala.

In 2011, he urged past local government leaders and traditional institutions to support unity and strengthen local governance.

Information on his LinkedIn profile shows that Hon. Ugor continued to function as a financial expert and policy adviser. Until his passing, he remained a notable figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), contributing to political discussions and strategy.

His death marks the end of a significant era in Yala politics, and tributes are expected from political allies, community leaders, and residents across Cross River State.
