The Senate on Wednesday confirmed the appointment of Dr. Zainab Marwa as a member of the Governing Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), representing the North-East geopolitical zone.

Her confirmation came after the Senate adopted the report of its Committee on the NDDC during plenary.

The report was presented by Senator Patrick Ndubueze (APC, Imo North), who stood in for the committee’s chairman, Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong (Cross River South).

Following the presentation, lawmakers considered and approved the committee’s recommendation, paving the way for Dr. Marwa to officially join the NDDC Governing Board as the representative of the North-East zone.

Presenting the report, Ndubueze said President Bola Tinubu had forwarded Marwa’s nomination to the Senate, where it was referred to the committee for screening and legislative action.

He said the committee conducted a public screening to assess the nominee’s competence, integrity, experience and suitability for the position.

According to him, the committee found Marwa qualified for the appointment after reviewing her credentials and other relevant documents.

“Having carefully screened the nominee and considered all relevant documents submitted, the committee is satisfied that Dr. Zainab Marwa possesses the requisite qualifications, experience, integrity and competence required for the appointment.

“Accordingly, the committee recommends that the Senate confirm the appointment of Dr. Zainab Marwa as the member representing the North-East on the Governing Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission,” Ndubueze said.

Following the confirmation, Senate President Godswill Akpabio commended the committee for the timely completion of its assignment.

He congratulated Marwa on her confirmation and expressed confidence that she would contribute meaningfully to the development of the Niger Delta region.

“I thank the Committee on NDDC for the expeditious manner in which this assignment was carried out. I also thank my distinguished colleagues for their contributions.

“I wish the confirmed nominee, Dr. Zainab Marwa, success as a member of the Governing Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission. I hope her contributions will enhance the development and progress of the Niger Delta region,” Akpabio said.
