Suspected Lakurawa terrorists strike Sokoto community, kill police officer, three others
A police officer and three civilians have been killed in a fresh attack allegedly carried out by suspected Lakurawa militants in Girkau community, Kebbe Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The attack, which reportedly occurred on Tuesday, also left several residents with varying degrees of injuries.
The incident was made public by security analyst Bakatsine in a post on X, where he identified the slain police officer as Hussaini Manyu.
According to the report, the gunmen invaded the community, killing four people, including the police officer, while several others sustained injuries during the assault.
Authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the attack as of the time of filing this report.
However, security operatives are expected to intensify efforts to restore calm and track down those responsible for the latest violence.
“The attackers were also said to have killed an elderly man, Bala Wakili, and a young herder who reportedly refused to hand over his cattle,” Bakatsine said.
Bakatsine added that the gunmen shot another farmer while he was working on his farmland.
The attackers also reportedly set a police Hilux vehicle and another belonging to the Community Guard on fire before fleeing the area.
The post further claimed that the militants rustled an unspecified number of cattle during the raid.
In addition, a married woman was reportedly beaten after she resisted an attempted sexual assault by the attackers.
“How many more warnings must become death notices before vulnerable communities receive the protection they deserve?,” Bakatsine wrote
