A biological brother of the Secretary to the Zamfara State Government, Bello Nakwada, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The defection was disclosed in a statement issued in Gusau on Thursday by the state APC Publicity Secretary, Malam Yusuf Idris.

Idris described the move as a significant political development ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He said, “In another landmark defection ahead of the 2027 General Elections, the younger brother of the Secretary to the Zamfara State Government has formally joined the All Progressives Congress.”

According to him, the defector was received by party leaders in the state, who expressed confidence that his decision would further strengthen the APC’s structure and support base in Zamfara.

Alhaji Bello Nakwada has announced his defection from the PDP to the APC.

“Nakwada is one of Gov. Dauda Lawal’s campaign sponsors during the 2023 election.

“Similarly, the PDP’s Gusau Local Government Area Chairmanship aspirant in the last local government election in the state, Hon. Hassan Idris Gusau, has abandoned the PDP for the APC.

“Both former prominent PDP figures were happily received alongside some of their supporters by the Hon. Minister of State for Defence, Dr Bello Matawalle, in Abuja on Thursday.”

The detectors, in their separate remarks, commended the unity in the APC, where members were receiving equal treatment, courtesy of its leaders, like Matawalle and Sen. Abdulaziz Yari.

Idris added, “They declared their complete loyalty to the APC and its leaders, assuring that already their supporters and well-wishers had fully supported the defection and promised to work for the success of the APC.”

Upon receiving the new members, Matawalle assured them that they would enjoy all the benefits, privileges, and other forms of benevolence of the APC.

He charged them to encourage their supporters to fully participate in the ongoing e-registration of party members.
