Gunmen attack NIPSS facility in Plateau, kill three security operatives

Suspected gunmen have attacked the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, in Plateau State, leaving at least three security personnel dead and triggering heightened security concerns around the nation’s premier policy training institution.

The incident reportedly occurred late on Sunday night at about 11:00 p.m., when the assailants attempted to force their way into the facility and target residential quarters occupied by participants.

Security sources said the attackers were met with stiff resistance from deployed operatives, preventing them from gaining access to the participants’ accommodation blocks.

According to early reports, two soldiers and a police officer were killed during the exchange. The slain officer was identified as the orderly attached to a retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police who was attending a programme at the institute.

Despite the intensity of the attack, no participants were abducted, as security operatives successfully repelled the armed men before they could penetrate the residential area, a source familiar with the development said.

> “No participant was abducted because the security forces successfully repelled the attackers before they could enter the residential area,” the source disclosed.

As of press time, the motive behind the assault remains unclear, while authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the incident.

Meanwhile, security has been reinforced within and around the facility as investigations and manhunt operations have commenced.
