President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Yakubu Jang, son of former Plateau State Governor Jonah Jang, as Senior Special Assistant in the Office of the President.

The announcement was made on Saturday by Vice President Kashim Shettima while representing President Tinubu at the 80th birthday celebration and autobiography launch of former Governor Jonah Jang in Jos, Plateau State.

Speaking at the event, Shettima conveyed the President’s goodwill message before announcing the appointment.

“On behalf of Mr. President, I am pleased to announce the appointment of Yakubu Jang as Senior Special Assistant in the Office of the President,” the Vice President said.

Shettima stated that the appointment reflected President Tinubu’s commitment to recognising competence, rewarding loyalty and promoting inclusive governance by bringing diverse voices into the administration.

The announcement was greeted with applause from guests at the high-profile event held at the Tamarald Event Centre in Jos.

The ceremony attracted several prominent dignitaries, including former President Goodluck Jonathan, governors, serving and former government officials, traditional rulers, political leaders and associates of the Jang family.

The appointment coincided with celebrations marking the 80th birthday of former Governor Jonah Jang, who was honoured for his decades of public service as a Nigerian Air Force officer, Military Administrator, two-term Governor of Plateau State and former senator.

As part of the celebration, the elder statesman also unveiled his autobiography titled Airman to Politics: My Life, which chronicles his military career and political journey.
