Sowore appears in court after arrest warrant
Omoyele Sowore, presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), on Monday appeared before the Federal High Court in Abuja following the issuance of a bench warrant for his arrest.
Sowore, who is also the publisher of Sahara Reporters, arrived at the court premises alongside members of his group, many of whom carried placards in solidarity with him.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Justice Mohammed Umar had, on June 16, revoked the bail earlier granted to Sowore after he failed to appear in court for the continuation of his trial.
The court’s decision led to the issuance of a bench warrant, prompting Sowore’s appearance before the court on Monday amid a show of support from his followers.
Justice Mohammed Umar, in a ruling on an oral application made by the lawyer to the Department of State Services (DSS), Akinkolu Kehinde, SAN, also issued a bench warrant for his arrest.
The DSS is prosecuting Sowore for allegedly making false claims against the person of President Bola Tinubu by referring to him as “a criminal” in a post he made on his “X” and Facebook accounts.
As at the time of filing this report, the court is yet to begin sitting. (NAN)
