Police return four recovered vehicles to owners in Kano

The Kano State Police Command has recovered four stolen vehicles and returned them to their rightful owners.

The vehicles were recovered between August 1 and September 1, 2026, during separate intelligence-led operations carried out with the support of other police formations.

The operations were conducted under the direction of the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori.

The development was announced in a statement issued on Sunday by the command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa.

The police said the recoveries were made through intelligence gathering and cooperation among different police units.

According to the command, operatives of the Dala Area Command arrested Surajo Usman Ubale and recovered a suspected stolen Dangote trailer head with registration number BKD 350 XB

“In another operation, operatives of the Dawakin Kudu Division, working with the Datty Division in Lagos, traced and recovered a Toyota Matrix with registration number ABJ 398 CG, which had earlier been reported stolen.

“The vehicle was subsequently handed over to its owner, Muftahu Mohammed Ola, of Minna,” the statement said.

Similarly, operatives of the Market Division, acting on technical intelligence, arrested Abba S. Adam and recovered a maroon 2016 Hyundai Sonata with registration number GWA 93 DW.

The police said the vehicle was stolen in Kaduna and was later handed over to its owner, Abubakar Muhd Nura.

“The Special Intervention Squad also arrested Yunusa Mohammed, 33, and Muhammad Sani, 44, and recovered a golden Honda Civic with registration number ABJ 232 EY, valued at N1.5m,” Kiyawa said in the statement.

The Honda Civic, which was reportedly stolen in Sharada, Kano, was handed over to its female owner.

The command said the recoveries demonstrated the impact of sustained intelligence gathering and cooperation between the police and members of the public.

“The Kano State Police Command is pleased to announce the successful recovery and formal handing over of four (4) stolen motor vehicles to their rightful owners,” the statement said.

The police said all the suspects had confessed to the crimes and would be charged to court after the completion of investigations, while efforts were ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the suspected syndicate.

The command attributed the breakthrough to intelligence-led operations and community engagement, saying the operations were conducted in line with the strategic directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu.

“The Commissioner of Police commends the officers for their professionalism and appreciates members of the public for providing timely information,” the statement said.

The command also urged vehicle owners to strengthen security around their vehicles by parking in secure and well-lit areas and avoiding isolated locations.

It advised motorists to install anti-theft devices such as trackers, gear locks and alarms and cautioned them against leaving vehicle keys, documents and valuables inside their vehicles.

“The Command urges all motor vehicle owners to always park in secure, well-lit areas and avoid isolated locations, install anti-theft devices such as trackers, gear locks, and alarms, do not leave vehicle keys, documents, and valuables inside the vehicle, report any suspicious sale or movement of vehicles to the nearest Police Station immediately,” the statement said.
