Osun Assembly backs creation of State Police
Following the debate and consideration, the Osun lawmakers approved the proposed amendment, signalling the state’s support for the establishment of state police.
The Osun State House of Assembly has passed a resolution supporting the creation of state police.
The resolution was adopted during Tuesday’s plenary after lawmakers considered the proposed constitutional amendment on the establishment of state police.
The National Assembly had earlier passed the State Police Creation Amendment Bill on June 24, 2026, before forwarding it to the various State Houses of Assembly for consideration and approval.
During the plenary, the motion for the consideration of the bill was moved by the Majority Leader, Babajide Kofoworola, and seconded by Tajudeen Adeyemi.
Following the debate and consideration, the Osun lawmakers approved the proposed amendment, signalling the state’s support for the establishment of state police.
The Speaker of the Assembly, Adewale Egbedun, in his remarks, said the approved amendment of the House should be forwarded to the National Assembly for consideration.
The State Police Creation Amendment Bill is before the 36 State Houses of Assembly for consideration and approval before the bill is returned to the National Assembly for final approval.
The approved bill will then be passed to the President to be assented and pave the way for the creation of State Police in line with the directives of President Bola Tinubu.
