2027 AFCONQ: Chelle unveils 24-man Super Eagles squad for Tanzania clash
Super Eagles head coach Éric Chelle has unveiled a 24-man squad for Nigeria’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying fixtures against Tanzania.
According to a statement published on the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) website on Saturday, captain Wilfred Ndidi leads the squad, alongside several key players expected to feature in the qualifiers.
Defenders Calvin Bassey and Semi Ajayi, midfielders Alex Iwobi and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, as well as forwards Moses Simon, Ademola Lookman and Akor Adams, are among the players selected by the coach.
The goalkeeping department features Stanley Nwabali, Arthur Okonkwo and Francis Uzoho, who have all been included in the 24-man selection.
Chelle will be hoping the selected players deliver strong performances to help Nigeria secure positive results against Tanzania and strengthen their chances of qualifying for the 2027 AFCON.
Other notable selections include Ola Aina, Benjamin Fredricks, Bright Osayi-Samuel, Chibuike Nwaiwu, Abdullahi Bewene, Tochukwu Nnadi, Samson Tijani and Taiwo Awoniyi.
Nigeria will host Tanzania at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Friday, November 13, before travelling to Zanzibar for the return fixture at the Amman Stadium on Tuesday, November 17.
The two matches are crucial to Nigeria’s qualification hopes, with the Super Eagles currently occupying second position in Group L.
Nigeria must secure victories in both encounters to strengthen their chances of claiming the group’s only qualification ticket for the final tournament.
The 2027 Africa Cup of Nations will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda next summer.
