FCT Labour Unions orders workers to intensify industrial action amid Wike’s threats
Affiliate unions were instructed to fully maintain participation in the industrial action and reinforce mobilisation efforts.
Labour unions in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have been directed to intensify and sustain their ongoing industrial action until all unresolved workers’ demands are fully addressed.
In a reinforcement directive issued to affiliate unions, labour leaders stressed that the struggle of workers of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) must continue, warning that any retreat at this stage would embolden further violations of workers’ rights.
Key unresolved issues cited by the unions include unpaid wage awards and promotion arrears, non-remittance of pension and National Housing Fund (NHF) deductions, and continued intimidation of workers. The unions described these violations as “unacceptable and inconsistent with the principles of fairness, justice, and decent work.”
Affiliate unions were instructed to maintain full participation in the industrial action and to mobilise members for all congress-approved activities. Members were also urged to participate daily in prayer and solidarity sessions, scheduled from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at designated venues across the FCT.
“This struggle demands unity, discipline, and unwavering commitment. Any retreat at this stage will only embolden further violations against workers,” the directive read.
The unions reaffirmed the importance of strict compliance, citing the enduring labour slogan: “An injury to one is an injury to all.”
