The All Progressives Congress (APC) has recorded a sweeping victory in the just-concluded Niger State Local Government Council elections, winning all 25 chairmanship seats across the state.

The Niger State Independent Electoral Commission (NSIEC) confirmed the results, describing the polls as credible, transparent, and reflective of the people’s will.

In a statement signed by the Commissioner for Operations, Mohammed Liman, the Commission said that all Returning Officers had completed collation and declaration of results in line with the Electoral Law and NSIEC’s operational guidelines.

“After careful review, the Commission approved and ratified the results, confirming the duly elected chairmen and councillors who satisfied all legal requirements,” Liman stated.

According to the official list, APC candidates won in all 25 Local Government Areas, including Agaie, Bida, Kontagora, Lapai, Bosso, Chanchaga, and Wushishi.

Some of the newly elected chairmen include Sayuti Ibrahim Halilu (Agaie), Usman Mohammed (Bida), Mustapha Jibrin (Chanchaga), Lawal Yusuf (Kontagora), and Mohammed Lokogoma (Wushishi).

The APC’s dominance was evident across several councils. In Bosso, the APC polled 29,140 votes against the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) 6,039. Similar margins were recorded in Gbako (32,310 vs 7,363 PDP), Suleja (61,877 vs 1,146 SDP), and Lapai (43,604 vs 2,639 SDP and 1,429 PDP).

In Bida, APC secured 40,868 votes compared to PDP’s 8,386, while in Chanchaga, the ruling party scored 25,340 votes, leaving PDP, SDP, and Labour Party trailing with 10,216, 1,137, and 313 votes respectively.

Across northern Niger, APC maintained strong leads in Kontagora (25,154 vs 7,164 PDP), Borgu (44,248 vs 3,172 PDP), and Mariga (25,485 vs 6,662 PDP). Other notable results include Lavun (53,257 vs 1,340 PDP), Mokwa (27,100 vs 11,210 PDP), and Edati (20,414 vs 8,553 PDP).

For the councillorship elections, NSIEC confirmed results from all 274 wards, with the APC winning 271 seats, while the PDP secured two seats, one each in Tafa and Rafi LGAs.

Liman congratulated the elected officials and urged them to serve with transparency, accountability, and dedication to the people.

He also commended security agencies, political parties, observers, the media, IPAC, ALGON, and voters for their cooperation in ensuring a peaceful and successful election.

NSIEC announced that Certificates of Return would be presented to all newly elected officials soon, adding that stakeholders would be informed of the official date.
