The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced May 25, 2026, as the date for its presidential primary election, setting the cost of its nomination form at N100 million.

The timetable, released in a statement by the party’s spokesman, Bolaji Abdullahi, outlines a detailed schedule for the nomination of candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to the party, the process is already underway, with the collection of application forms running from April 1 to May 4, 2026.

The sale of nomination forms is scheduled for May 5 to May 10, while completed forms are expected to be submitted between May 11 and May 13.

Screening of aspirants will take place from May 14 to May 15, with results to be published on May 17. Appeals arising from the screening exercise will be heard between May 18 and May 19, while the final list of cleared aspirants will be released on May 20.

Primaries Schedule Across Positions

The party disclosed that primaries for State Houses of Assembly, House of Representatives, and Senate seats will be conducted simultaneously at the ward level on May 21, 2026.

Governorship primaries are slated for May 22, while the presidential primary will hold on May 25.

This will be followed by a National Executive Committee meeting on May 26 and a Special National Convention on May 27, where candidates are expected to be formally ratified.

Nomination Fees Across Board

The ADC also approved a structured fee regime for aspirants seeking elective offices.

Presidential form: N100 million

Governorship form: N50 million

Senate: N20 million

House of Representatives: N10 million

State House of Assembly: N3 million

To encourage inclusivity, the party announced a 50 per cent discount for youths, as well as a 25 per cent reduction for women and persons with disabilities.

Commitment to Internal Democracy

The ADC stated that the timetable reflects its commitment to internal democracy, transparency, and compliance with the Electoral Act.

It urged aspirants and stakeholders to strictly adhere to the schedule and guidelines, assuring that the process would be conducted in an orderly and credible manner.

The announcement comes amid heightened political activities and shifting alliances within opposition parties as preparations intensify for the 2027 general elections.
