ADC hands Kwankwaso bloc majority leadership slots in Kano
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kano State has agreed to allocate 60 per cent of its leadership positions to former governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and his supporters.
The decision was reached during a stakeholders’ meeting where party members deliberated on the leadership structure ahead of future political activities in the state.
Kano ADC Chairman, Musa Ungogo, confirmed the arrangement, stating that Kwankwaso’s bloc would receive the larger share of positions, while the remaining 40 per cent would go to existing party members and other groups that recently joined the party.
According to him, the sharing formula was accepted by all parties involved.
“One thing you can take home is that every group and every member is happy about the sharing formula. Secondly, all the positions that you will get from this congress today would be reached by consensus. There will be nothing to regret,” he said.
Ungogo explained that no specific slot was set aside for former Deputy Governor Nasiru Gawuna, but noted that Gawuna is now politically aligned with Kwankwaso and would be accommodated within his camp.
He further disclosed that the 40 per cent allocation would be shared among members from different political backgrounds, including defectors from the Labour Party, Peoples Democratic Party, All Progressives Congress, Social Democratic Party, as well as individuals who were previously not active in politics.
Ungogo described Kwankwaso’s entry into the ADC as a major boost for the party, adding that the party is gaining momentum in Kano with increasing defections and fresh memberships.
The development signals growing political realignments in Kano as parties begin positioning ahead of the 2027 general elections.
