Atiku steps up mobilisation after joining ADC, says Country needs urgent redemption
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Monday hosted state chairmen of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory in Abuja, days after he formally registered as a member of the party.
The delegation, led by Kogi State ADC Chairman Ogga Kingsley, visited Atiku at his residence to officially welcome him into the fold and reaffirm their confidence in his decision to join the opposition coalition.
Atiku, who described the visit as a reaffirmation of a shared resolve to rebuild the country, said the chairmen expressed delight in receiving him as a bona fide member of the ADC.
He noted that his entry into the party signalled the beginning of a collective political mission aimed at rescuing Nigeria from the challenges confronting it.
During the meeting, Atiku urged members and leaders within the coalition to expedite their registration, insisting that the task ahead allowed no room for complacency or neutrality.
According to him, the moment called for unity of purpose, especially among those determined to steer Nigeria away from what he described as its current trajectory.
He commended the ADC’s state leadership for remaining committed to the nation’s future and expressed optimism that the party would provide a credible path toward a secure, united, and prosperous Nigeria.
In a post on his X handle on Tuesday, Atiku restated this conviction, stressing that the ruling APC had failed the country and that the ADC was prepared to prevent further decline.
Atiku officially joined the ADC last Monday, a move that came roughly 17 months ahead of the 2027 general elections. His defection followed his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on July 16, citing deep-rooted internal differences and what he described as a departure from the party’s founding principles.
Recounting his political journey, Atiku maintained that the ADC remained the only political platform capable of rescuing Nigeria from its economic and security crises. Speaking on Friday during the inauguration of the ADC’s Taraba State office in Jalingo, he said he had tasted other major political parties, including the APC and PDP, and concluded that neither had the capacity to lift the country out of its present condition.
He urged Taraba residents to participate actively in the ongoing continuous voter registration, emphasizing that meaningful change could only be achieved at the ballot.
Addressing supporters, he said Nigerians must avoid being misled by parties that had contributed to insecurity, hunger, unemployment, and poverty. He added that the ADC represented integrity, a fresh direction, and a renewed promise for the youth and women whose future has been undermined by years of failed leadership.
Atiku expressed confidence that the ADC would win Taraba State and compete strongly nationwide, positioning itself as a reliable alternative for Nigerians seeking genuine political and economic reform.
