BREAKING: Bandits attack wedding in Kaduna LG, kill, abduct several
A wedding in Kahir village, Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State, was violently attacked by bandits on Sunday night, leaving 13 people dead and an unspecified number abducted.
A resident, Shehu Bala, told reporters that the attack occurred around 11:47 p.m., when heavily armed assailants wielding AK-47 rifles stormed the wedding hall and opened fire. Several victims with gunshot wounds were rushed to Kagarko General Hospital, while two others with severe injuries were transferred to Kaduna for medical attention.
“Two of my friends who were inside the hall sustained bullet injuries,” Bala said. “But the exact number of kidnapped victims is unclear due to the sporadic shootings.”
A community leader confirmed the killings and named some of the deceased: Bako Danjuma, Williams Luka, Peter Williams, Joseph Yakubu, Victor Peter, John Dan Asabe, Angulu Markus, Maikano Aribi, Douglas John, Ado Yakubu, Zaphaniah Alhaji, Joseph Kaddah, and Francis Unguwa Doya.
The bandits reportedly operated unchallenged for nearly an hour, also raiding local shops and a chemist, taking away food items, provisions, and drugs. Residents fled into the bush in panic during the attack, throwing the community into chaos. The bodies of the deceased have since been buried, while contacts with the abductors remain unestablished.
A police source in Kagarko confirmed the attack and abductions but said the total number of kidnapped individuals is still unknown. Kaduna State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Hassan Mansur, stated that a comprehensive report would be issued after full details were gathered.
Deputy Governor Dr. Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe and Senator Sani Musa (313) visited the injured victims at Kagarko General Hospital.
This attack adds to a rising wave of insecurity in Kaduna, where several communities, including Janjala, have been under siege by bandits. Reports indicate that 14 people, including a vigilante operative and his wife abducted three weeks ago, remain in captivity.
