DSS arrests suspected ESN commander, IPOB member over enugu attacks
The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested a suspected commander of the Eastern Security Network (ESN) and a suspected member of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) over alleged involvement in attacks on police stations and killings in Isi-Uzo Local Government Area.
According to a statement released on Saturday, the suspects were apprehended on Friday in the communities of Eha-Amufu and Umuhu after months of intelligence gathering by security operatives.
Security sources said the arrests followed investigations into a series of violent attacks targeting security facilities and residents in the area between 2024 and 2026.
Suspects Identified
The suspects were identified as Sabastine Odo Odam, believed to be a notorious ESN commander, and Ejike Daniel, alleged to be a member of IPOB.
According to the sources, the two suspects allegedly confessed to orchestrating several attacks on police stations, during which weapons were stolen and security personnel killed.
> “Both men have confessed to being masterminds of a chain of attacks on police stations and carting away weapons,” a security source said.
Killings Linked to Attacks
Investigators say the suspects are linked to multiple killings in the area, including:
The killing of 11 labourers in February 2026
The killing of two policemen in January 2026
The killing of two policemen in December 2025
The killing of another police officer in 2024
Security officials described the arrests as a major breakthrough in efforts to curb insecurity in Nigeria’s South-East region.
> “The arrests represent a significant success for the DSS in the fight against insecurity in the South-East and the country at large,” the source added.
Community Reaction
Residents of Isi-Uzo welcomed the development, expressing hope that the arrests would help restore peace to communities that have experienced repeated attacks in recent years.
The suspects are currently in DSS custody and are expected to be arraigned in court after the conclusion of investigations, according to security sources.
