Ex-NEPC Executive Director Olusegun Awolowo dies at 62
Former Executive Director of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC), Olusegun Awolowo, has died at the age of 62.
His family confirmed his passing in a statement on Thursday.
“With extremely heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Olusegun Awolowo,” the family stated.
They described him as “the world’s most phenomenal husband, father and grandfather, steady, wise, endlessly loving, and the constant anchor of our family”.
The statement added that he was a loyal servant of Nigeria who dedicated his life to the country with “vision, integrity, passion and unwavering commitment”.
The family said he lived every day with purpose, humility and a generous spirit that touched everyone around him.
Brief Biography
Olusegun Dipeolu Awolowo Jr. was born in 1963 into the prominent Awolowo family as the grandson of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo.
A lawyer by training, he held several strategic public service roles, including serving as Special Assistant to former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan.
He was appointed Executive Director/CEO of the NEPC in 2013 and led major reforms to boost Nigeria’s non-oil exports. Awolowo was widely respected for his work on the Zero Oil Plan and for championing economic diversification.
He remained active in public policy and development advocacy until his passing.
