Gunmen launch midnight attack, kill woman, six children

Police have launched an investigation after unknown attackers killed a woman and her six children in Kano.

Residents of Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters in Kano metropolis have been plunged into deep mourning following a brutal attack that claimed the lives of a woman and her six children in the early hours of Friday.

The victims, identified as Fatima Abubakar, 35, and her children, Maimuna (17), Aisha (16), Bashir (13), Abubakar (10), Faruk (7), and Abdussalam, aged one and a half, were reportedly killed after suspected hoodlums forcefully broke into their residence at Dorayi Gidan Kwari.

Eyewitnesses said the assailants used dangerous weapons during the attack, leaving the entire household lifeless in what residents described as one of the most horrifying incidents the community has ever witnessed.

A resident of the area, Kabiru Ibrahim, said the tragedy has thrown the neighbourhood into shock and disbelief.

“We are still struggling to understand what happened. Nobody knows the motive, and it is painful that an entire family was wiped out in this manner,” Ibrahim told Daily Trust.

According to him, the bodies of the victims were evacuated to the Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, where medical personnel confirmed them dead.

Confirming the incident, the Kano State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, has ordered an immediate and thorough investigation.

Kiyawa disclosed that detectives from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) have commenced a probe aimed at identifying and apprehending those responsible for the attack.

“The command sympathises with the family of the deceased and the people of Dorayi Chiranchi. Investigation has begun, and we assure the public that those behind this heinous act will be brought to justice,” he said.
