MTN begins airtime compensation for subscribers over poor network service
Some subscribers of MTN Nigeria have begun receiving airtime credits as compensation for poor quality of service experienced in January 2026.
Messages received by affected users showed notifications such as: “Dear Customer, your account has been credited with N341 airtime for quality of service issues in January 2026. Thank you for your understanding.”
However, reports indicate that the compensation amounts vary widely among subscribers. While some received as little as N20, others got N91, and higher credits such as N341 were also recorded.
It remains unclear whether all affected customers have been fully compensated, as MTN has not publicly disclosed the total number of subscribers impacted or the criteria used for the payments.
The development follows regulatory pressure on telecom operators to address persistent complaints about network performance and comply with quality-of-service standards, including compensating users where necessary.
MTN had earlier stated that it would comply with regulatory directives and continue investing in network upgrades aimed at improving service delivery nationwide.
