Pay taxes and ground rents to enjoy basic amenities – Tinubu tells FCT resident
President Bola Tinubu has called on residents and business owners in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to fulfil their tax obligations, pay ground rents and other statutory charges, stressing that government revenue remains essential for sustaining infrastructure development across Abuja.
The President made the appeal on Wednesday during the inauguration of the completed Arterial Road N5 linking Life Camp Junction to Ring Road III in the Dape District of the FCT.
Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Tinubu said compliance with tax and land-related payments would provide the resources needed to fund additional infrastructure projects in the territory.
According to him, residents and businesses benefiting from ongoing development must play their part by meeting their financial obligations to government.
“To the residents and business owners enjoying this transformation, I urge you to meet your obligations. Pay your taxes. Clear your land fees and ground rents. Your compliance gives the FCT Administration the strength to build more roads like this one,” he said.
The President described the road project as a reflection of his administration’s commitment to completing critical projects rather than abandoning them midway.
He recalled that during the commissioning of an earlier section of the road in 2025, he had promised that the remaining segment would be completed.
“On that day, I pledged not to leave this vital artery half-done. Because the Renewed Hope Agenda is not about abandoned projects; it is about delivery from start to finish.
“And so today, we are back. We are back to close the circle. We are back to commission the Dape District Section of Arterial Road N5, from Life Camp Junction to Ring Road III,” Tinubu stated.
The President noted that the project, awarded in October 2024, was completed within schedule, describing it as evidence of a new approach to public infrastructure delivery.
He added that the road would improve connectivity among Dape, Karmo, Gwarinpa, Kado, Mbora and Idu communities while also opening up economic opportunities through easier access to industrial and commercial centres.
“Beyond that, this road opens a direct gateway to the Idu Industrial District. That means lower logistics costs for businesses, new investment, and more jobs for our people,” he said.
Tinubu also commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for driving infrastructure development in the territory.
“Minister Wike, you and your team have shown what happens when political will meets accountability. We fund projects to see results, not to listen to grammar,” the President said.
Speaking earlier, Wike said infrastructure delivery in the FCT had expanded significantly since the beginning of the Tinubu administration.
According to the minister, the number of projects commissioned annually has continued to increase, reflecting the administration’s commitment to development.
“On June 24, 2024, when we had the first anniversary of Mr President, we took nine days of commissioning of projects. On the second anniversary, we took 19 days. To the glory of God, in this third year, we are touching 31 days of commissioning of projects,” Wike said.
He added that development was no longer concentrated in the city centre, noting that satellite communities were now benefiting from increased government attention and infrastructure investments.
The minister also dismissed complaints relating to compensation for properties affected by demolitions carried out during the execution of the project, insisting that all eligible beneficiaries had been duly compensated.
The commissioning of the Arterial Road N5 formed part of activities marking the third anniversary of the Tinubu administration. :::
