Tinubu could have won Osun election ‘At All Cost’ if he wanted, there’s nothing the Gov. could have done – Wike
Wike made the remark while discussing the outcome of the August 15 governorship election, which saw incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke retain his seat.
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said President Bola Tinubu could have secured victory for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the recent Osun State governorship election if the Federal Government had deployed its full political influence.
Wike made the remark while discussing the outcome of the August 15 governorship election, which saw incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke retain his seat.
According to the minister, the Federal Government did not deploy what he described as “federal might” during the election.
“If the President wanted to win Osun State election at all cost, I would have been there and we will win it, and there’s nothing the governor can do,” Wike said.
He insisted that the full political and governmental machinery of the Federal Government was not deployed to secure victory for the APC candidate.
“There was no Federal might used in Osun. When you see the force and might of the Federal Government, you will know,” he added.
‘Adeleke Would Have Been in APC’
Wike also claimed that Adeleke would ordinarily have been a member of the APC if political circumstances had been different.
“Ordinarily, Adeleke would have been with APC if things had worked out well,” he said.
Adeleke contested the election on the platform of the Accord Party and defeated the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, to secure another term as governor.
Wike Predicts Easier 2027 Election for Tinubu
The FCT minister also expressed confidence in Tinubu’s chances of winning the 2027 presidential election.
He argued that the President would face a less difficult contest in 2027 than he did in 2023, citing what he described as the weakened state of opposition parties.
“2027 elections will be the easiest one for the President compared to 2023,” Wike said.
He added:
“This time around, opposition has been crippled, homeless, no feather.”
Wike’s comments come amid growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, with opposition parties exploring alliances and various political figures positioning themselves for the presidential contest.
